Author Mike Sparrow has generously dedicated the proceeds of the first book of his upcoming trilogy to One Spirit for the Lakota Youth. The Manifest Destiny series goes beyond the single events of Little Bighorn and Wounded Knee shining a broader light on the many elements of that era that still impact the Lakota today.

Immerse yourself in an epic tale of the Native American west.

In bookstores from October 18th 2017. Please purchase a copy. All proceeds of the first book of the trilogy are donated to One Spirit for the benefit of the Lakota youth.

Native is centred upon the Lakota, whose battle to save their ancestral lands, preserve their cultural heritage and traditional way of life, is often represented in depictions of conflicts like the Battle of Little Bighorn or the Massacre at Wounded Knee. But, although important events in their own right, the systematic persecution of the Lakota, amongst many other tribes, should not be simplified or trivialised by individual events. It is without doubt that the rights and obligations enshrined in the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 have been, and continue to be, disregarded. Today, residents of American Indian reservations suffer the consequences of discrimination, poverty and social deprivation inflicted by near extermination of the plains buffalo, relocation to reservations and a devastating enforced boarding schools system.

The three part series, Manifest Destiny, of which Native is the first book, is set in a representative historical context, although the timing and detail of events has been adapted to fit the storyline. The characters are fictional, and are not intended to depict real people.

It is the author’s hope that Native, and the Manifest Destiny series, will entertain, but also provoke readers to cultivate a greater awareness, empathy, and respect for indigenous tribes. All proceeds from Native are donated to furthering the future welfare of Lakota youth.
