Grounds clean up
We are so glad to announce that Travis Thunder Bull has been "officially" named as the Allen (Pass Creek) Youth Center Director, by the Pass Creek Tribal Council. Travis and the community children are working hard to clean the grounds, mow the grass, and provide a safe place for the little ones.
Wishlist and shoes
Travis has created a "Wish List" of needs for the children at the center. In response to the list which included shoes for many of the children who had none, Mark Cucuzzella, MD FAAFP, Professor at West Virginia School of Medicine, and Sarah Hodder, General Manager of Two Rivers Treads, Ranson, WV responded by sending this bounty of shoes! We just can't thank them enough!
The Youth Center had a visit from Wanbli Ceya who is hoping to teach Lakota culture to the children at the center. We grabbed the photo below and this text from his Facebook post about his visit:
"Just had an incredible session with a small group of our babies that come through to the Allen Youth Center. I can't wait to be involved heavily with this youth center and the incredible people who put so much work in for the youth of Allen. I will be coming through just to bond and keep up with the kids weekly soon enough. Here's a pic of me and the kids with the Tanka Bar I had provided for them. :) I feel very good about my 1st day with them."
Theater with Edison Hong
Edison Hong is doing a great job getting the kids involved in theater. There are local theatrical artists who are willing to help. They do plays on the Rez and are based out of Kyle. They are willing to assist us which is great.
We will do a play during our pow wow which takes place July 21, 22, and 23. The play will take place on the 23rd I believe. ~Travis Thunder Bull
Pow Wow Parade
Travis says in an update: "The Youth Center wants to enter a Float in the Pow Wow parade so I am going to work on that. The theme is Water is Life in recognition of the Standing Rock Water Protectors." #MniWiconi #WaterisLife
